1. What stays on your device
The following are stored only on your phone and are never uploaded to us or anyone else:
- your habits, goals, logs, notes and routines;
- GPS routes of the walks, runs, rides and hikes you record;
- progress photos and short clips, and your body weight;
- data read from Health Connect (steps, exercise and sleep). The app only reads this data; it never writes to Health Connect.
Backups are files you export yourself and keep wherever you choose. Photos and clips are not included in backups. Uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored on the phone.
2. Optional Google account
You can use Habit Strides without an account. Signing in with Google is only needed to start the 7-day free trial of the monthly Pro plan. Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication, which stores your name, email address and a Firebase user ID.
Your purchase profile with Adapty (see section 3) is tied to that user ID, so Pro and the trial follow you to a new phone. Your habits and other on-device data are not linked to the account and are not uploaded when you sign in.
Deleting your account. You can delete it at any time, and no one needs to approve it:
- In the app:Settings → Account → Delete account. Google may ask you to sign in once more to confirm.
- By email: write to privacy@samalaitech.com from the Google account you signed in with, asking us to delete your Habit Strides account. We do it within 30 days and confirm by email.
Deleting removes your name, email address and Firebase user ID, and unlinks your Adapty purchase profile. Nothing is kept afterwards except purchase records Google Play holds for its own legal reasons. Your habits and other data on the phone are not touched: delete them in the app or by uninstalling it. A subscription isn't cancelled by deleting the account: cancel it in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions. You can also just sign out in Settings → Account.
3. Purchases and advertising
Pro is sold through Google Play Billing, with Adapty showing the plans, validating and restoring purchases. Before you sign in, Adapty uses an anonymous installation ID; after you sign in, your purchase profile is tied to your Firebase user ID. We never receive your card or bank details.
Habit Strides shows no ads and does not use the advertising ID.
4. Analytics and crash reports
The app sends anonymous usage analytics through Firebase Analytics and crash reports through Firebase Crashlytics, so we can see which features are used and fix crashes. These do not include your habits, notes, routes, photos or health data. You can switch both off in the app's Settings.
5. On-device assistant
The optional assistant uses Google's Gemma models, which run entirely on the phone. The model you choose is downloaded once (from 304 MB) and can be removed at any time in the app. What you type, say or photograph for the assistant is processed on the phone and is not sent anywhere.
6. Pro map tiles
When a Pro user views a route on a real map, the app fetches map tiles from a map tile provider. Like any web request, the provider sees the map area requested and your IP address. Your routes themselves are not sent.
7. Permissions
What the app asks for, and why
- Location
- Recording the route of a walk, run, ride or hike. Requested while using the app; recording keeps going with the screen off through a foreground service that shows a notification. Routes stay on the phone.
- Camera and photos
- Progress photos and clips, and alarms you choose to stop by taking a photo. Captures stay on the phone.
- Microphone
- Voice input for the assistant, and clips recorded with sound. Audio is processed and stored on the phone.
- Notifications
- Reminders, alarms, and the notification shown while an activity is recording.
- Exact alarms and full-screen alarms
- Habit alarms that ring on time, like an alarm clock, even when the phone is locked.
- Health Connect (read)
- Reading steps, exercise and sleep so they can complete habits for you. Read only, and the data stays on the phone.
- Usage access and display over other apps
- The Time screen and the app blocker (Android only).
Every permission is optional: declining one only turns off the feature that needs it, and you can revoke any of them in your device settings.
